Wolf Energetics – History
2013
Wolf Energetik was founded by Dr. Bodo Wolf and Claudia Hain – initially under the name NACOMPEX GmbH. The aim was to develop new electricity storage technologies for industrial use. Dr. Bodo Wolf was an expert in power plant technology and from 1970-1978 was Director of Research and Head of the Technical Development and Transition Department at the German Fuel Institute, the research center of the Schwarze Pumpe gas combine. Wolf Energetik has a tradition of combining technological innovation with cross-generational expertise in the energy industry.
2015
The FEREDOX® process for energy storage with iron and water was patented in order to build up chemical storage capacities on an industrial scale. It is based on the C-H-O thermodynamic system that Dr. Bodo Wolf developed back in 1972 as an application of the iron-steam process for synthesis gas production. This system later formed the basis for the development of the world’s first renewable synthetic fuels made from biomass, CO₂ and water.
The establishment of CHOREN Industries (1999-2005) for the production of SunDiesel with the shareholders Daimler-Chrysler, VW and Shell in Freiberg and the founding of Sunfire (2010) were followed by further technology companies for the implementation of a solar materials and energy economy: Suncoal for HTC coal from biomass (2008), Thermea. Energy Systems for the thermeco2 CO2 heat pumps suitable for district heating as well as EA EnergieArchitektur and EA Systems Dresden for optimizing the use of renewable energies to meet demand.

2016 – 2020
The establishment of the FEREDOX® engineering team in Bad Saarow and Dresden began with the entry of seed investor Andreas Keil. The FEREDOX® technology was presented internationally – including at the Inventors’ Salon in Geneva and with a Brandenburg business delegation under Minister President Woidke in China. In 2019, the process provider team and its cooperation partner TU Dresden planned a small-scale test facility for process verification, produced the first iron masses for reaction tests and applied for funding for the development of an electricity storage pilot plant.

2021 – 2024
With Mabanaft – a pioneer for renewable fuels – and the Saxon investors Mittelständische Beteiligungsgesellschaft Sachsen and Sächsische Beteiligungsgesellschaft Sachsen, strong strategic partners were gained to realize the construction of the FEREDOX® development center at the German Fuel Institute in Freiberg. Funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics, an electricity storage pilot plant was built and successfully put into operation as part of the Future H Drive project. The extensive data and development results marked the transition to the industrial implementation of FEREDOX® technology. Entrepreneur and founder Dr. Bodo Wolf was no longer able to personally witness the breakthrough of his technology. However, his work and conviction continue to have an impact.

2025
In 2025, Wolf Energetik was successfully restructured by founding a new company and the entry of HMS Bergbau AG. Dr. Bodo Wolf’s vision of the solar materials and energy industry is now being consistently pursued by an experienced and young management team. Supported by the new investor and in close cooperation with long-standing technical partners, the focus is on industrial scaling and international marketing of the FEREDOX® technology. Together with strategic industrial partners, the process provider team is planning the construction of industrial reference plants.
